The Sea I See

Beach Lamp

Why does the ocean draw me so?

What depth of sea that calms my soul?

How does this wind and wave compete?

The smell, the sun, the sand on feet.

A soaring gull

A sunset sweet

The surging flow

A light replete

Why does this sea now welcome me?

What depth beyond my eyes to see?

How does my heart find solace here?

Within its grasp without a fear.

The sea

I see

Now beckons me.

God called the dry ground “land,”

and the gathered waters he called “seas.”

And God saw that it was good.
